Gift Card Mobile App

Our android app has been launched in 2008 as the first app of its kind. The app was original built in native Java/ Android with the focus on retriving and recording gift card balance dollar value only. This original app has both Australia version and US version. Back then, the balance check process is very simple via http request, the app is able to post card information to issuer endpoint directly. The balance check process was fully automated and integrated inside the app. The feedback for the original Gift Card Balance app was overwhealting and users provided good ideas and sent more gift card for us to build this automation process. The app thus been distributed to a few other 3 party Android app store in the next a few years with growing number of cards supported by the app. We also built a native Windows Phone app as a prototype but the project was discontinued due to the disappearance of Win Phones.

As time goes, the banking industry and card issuers have been improving their security machinaism in their APIs and endpoints to protect the safety of the gift cards. The old fashioned directly HTTP requests have been replaced by HTTPS calls, captcha and website logins. More card brands have started to use enhanced protection on the website when card holders retrives balance. This trend has triggered our re-design of the initial GCB app. The app needs to be move flexible and allow people to capture the balance in different ways, also be more transparent of the process with a degree of manual configuration.

Additionally, iOS app and windows app have also been growing dramatically in the market. We have thus decided to revamp our originial android mobile app and make it cross-platform in 2017 so that the user can use it on Android , iOS and even windows pc and macOS eventually. The apps on different platform still share the same layout and functions. The architect of our mobile apps all share the same infrastructure and backend support workflow. We are trying to delieve the consistent user experience across all the apps.
